Hardcoat Anodizing is a process that protects reactive metals and alloys from corrosion and deterioration by the application of a coating of an unreactive material. This protective coating can greatly extend the use of the metals and alloys. Because hard anodizing process allows the production of a thicker wear and resistant coating, a variety of aluminum alloys can now be used with steel, brass, and bronze.

Request More InformationThere is a major difference between hard anodizing and regular anodized aluminum. In typical anodized aluminum, a very thin coating of aluminum oxide is developed only on the surface of the metal. Hard anodizing is an electro-chemical process converting aluminum to aluminum oxide both on and in the aluminum surface. This layer is Aluminum Hydroxide and is extremely hard and wear resistant. The thickness of this hard anodizing coating can range from 1 to 3 mils or more. Another surface Florida Anodizing offers is Telfon Coating which also adds addition wear resistance to hardcoat anodizing.

Hard Coat anodizing enhances many of the desirable properties of aluminum in ways such as:
    • low density
    • excellent electrical resistance
    • excellent thermal conductivity
    • good malleability and ductility
    • imparts a surface as hard as some gemstones
